Well thats a wrap with A Fest for another year and what a day it was! Bloody hell, that was a long day! You can tell I worked hard because my man flu is back with a vengeance!! Ok I didn't work as hard as Nick and the students but still! So I rocked up on the high street at 10 only to find out that they had all been there since half 7! Sod getting up that early on a Sunday! Sunday is usually a day for hangovers, nurofen and stupidly early walks home. Ok its not meant to be for long walks. Recently I keep leaving the Rockhouse at closing, can never get a taxi and end up walking the 2 miles home!
I've digressed massively here! A Fest! Thats what this blog is about! Right so A Fest is a small mini festival/family fun day put on by the town council and collage to raise money for Andover Mencap and the Abel Foundation. You probably all know what Mencap do but the Abel Foundation is a local charity run by Tony, He owns the Rockhouse, he's the one that gets me in to shoot in there every week. The Abel Foundation is a charity for the sufferers and families of Mitochondrial Disease. I know for a fact they do a hell of a lot of work for people with this disease and a quick googling of it reveals there is currently no cure. So give them some love and some cash! Like pronto!!!
That's the serious bit over, back to our regular rambling! So the students found all of the acts through the auditions of the previous weeks. Look back at my other blog posts to see those pictures. See your first bit of homework!! They then set the stage up, did the sound engineering, artist management/liaising, plus everything else that happens at a music show! Don't worry they weren't just left on their own. They had Nick overseeing everything as well as a pro music production team. Ok that's a terrible description but I can't for the life of me remember what the company is actually called!! Also I should explain who Nick is! Nick is the sound engineer in the Rockhouse and also teaches music events, tech and production at Andover Collage. Basically if its musical and tech related, he is the dude to know! Side note, it was also his idea to start 'Pic of the Week' so you have him to thank for the rambling blogs!
I should probably list who played. Cheer for your favourites! Louder, Louder!! Ok so in order of appearance we had: Luke Thomas, Maddie Douch, Chris B, The Rejects, Han and Stewart, Grant Sharkey, Peaches, Odyssey and The Revenant!! All hosted by local legend Dave Allon!! The Dabhands were also billed to play but had to pull out. These things happen though. So what did I think of the acts. Well as I've said before and I will say again. I have huge respect for anyone willing to get up on a stage and perform. Especially on a stage in the middle of the high street! Even if the act isn't my cup of tea (I don't actually like tea but you know what I mean) I still have huge respect for them. One act I will mention though is the legend that is Grant Sharkey! I have seen this guy play several times. Last time being at a house party with about ten people at. He cracks me up every time. His use of the word 'Fracking' to make his set child friendly was inspired!
I'm having a complete mind blank at the moment and have no idea what to write so I'll summarise! The day was awesome! Everyone involved worked their bollocks off! The students did an incredible job of running the music. Nicks got the patient of a saint! Dave's hilarious as always! The music was brilliant! And everyone that turned up to watch just shows that people are happy to come out and support the local music scene because there's a hell of a lot of talent on the rise in this town!
I'll talk quickly about the photography side of the day. I turned up and took pictures. I had a lot of fun, although I ran out of ideas by the end of the day. I'm a bit rusty with doing all day events! Ok truth time, editing was a nightmare! My attention span is getting worse! It took me two days to edit all of these pics, It used to take me a few hours! You better appreciate the effort I put in!! That was clearly a joke! Right then I'm going to do my usual and send this over to Suzie, my proof reader to check over. Actually I'm with her now so I'm going to hand her the laptop so she can sort out my appalling grammar! She wanted me to add in that she's very tired and has been at work since half 4 this morning!
Right then that's another blog finished. You know the drill by now! Like, Share, Comment, Email, Tell your hairdresser, Tweet, Hang a banner from a hot air balloon, Tell the paper, Tell everyone, Write about it in the sky! etc etc etc!! Ok I've run out of ideas now and I'm writing this in Suzie's hair salon so I'm going to go play on the wheely chairs! I'm a proper grown up! Until next time! Peace!!!
